Three new eateries in Wichita, featuring waffles, pizza, egg rolls
Wichitans have three new places to eat. The following restaurants have just opened:
Grandma Thuy’s, 8728 W. Maple: This new carryout business, which sells cooked or frozen Vietnamese egg rolls, opened on Friday on Wichita’s west side. It’s owned by Mai Vo, a full-time dental hygienist who, at the urging of her husband, started selling egg rolls from home during coronavirus shutdowns. But she quickly learned she didn’t have the right licenses to sell food from home and had to regroup.
Now, she has a commercial space and is ready to sell her egg rolls, made with thin and crispy shell and packed with meats and veggies, to the public again. She’s selling a dozen egg rolls for $9, 30 for $21 and 50 for $34. People can order ahead by messaging her on Facebook. Her hours are 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call 316-295-3699.
Wade Waffle Co.: This new food truck, which specializes in Liege-style waffles made with little Belgian sugar pearls, hit the road for the first time Saturday.
Its opening day menu included classic Liege waffles as well as a Strawberry Tuxedo dessert waffle topped with strawberries, whipped cream and both dark and white chocolate. They’ll also have two savory waffles: elote plus ham, cheddar and onion.
Wade Waffle Co. is owned by Justin and Jenny Wade, who moved from Lawrence to Wichita to start the business. Keep track of where the waffle truck will roll next on its Facebook page.
Knolla’s Pizza, 111 W. Douglas: Darinda Knolla has just opened her new downtown restaurant, which is taking over the former Quiznos space at Douglas and Main.
In addition to the regular pizza menu, it also offers breakfast. Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays; and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
