The vacant Sonic building on North Broadway in Wichita is getting a new restaurant tenant

A new doughnut shop is apparently taking over the old Sonic building at 1235 N. Broadway that’s been vacant since 2014.

Recently, a sign appeared outside the building touting the impending arrival of Donut Palace. There’s a Dallas-based number on the sign, and I’ve called and left a message.

Although I don’t know yet who does own the shop, I can tell you who does not. I spoke to the owner of Donut Palace at 114 E Seventh Ave. in Augusta this morning, and he knew nothing about it. Same goes for the owner of The Donut Palace in Arkansas City, 1520 N. Summit, who despite having the exact same logo says it’s news to her.

The owner of The Donut Palace in Pratt says it’s also not related to that store, though apparently there’s someone who starts Donut Palace shops then sells them off to locals, “almost like a franchise,” the Pratt owner said..

I’ll update this post when I learn more.
