One Wichita restaurant is closing, but the pain is relieved by another two opening
Restaurants in Wichita close. Restaurants in Wichita open.
Recently, there’s been news of both.
Late last week, a post on the Mizu Sushi Facebook page announced that the restaurant at 2140 W. 21st St., will soon close. Though they haven’t chosen a specific date, the owners said the restaurant will be closed by the end of March.
Rachel Xu opened the restaurant in the space near 21st and Amidon in August of 2016, and Mizu was known for its all-you-can-eat sushi deal.
It’s not all dining doom, though. Two other restaurants have just opened.
One is the simply named Shawarma Restaurant, which opened Friday in the spot at 2020 N. Woodlawn that Zaytun vacated last summer.
The restaurant is serving a buffet daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will serve from a regular menu from 3 to 9 p.m. daily.
The regular menu has several traditional Mediterranean dishes Wichita is already familiar with, including kababs, kefta, falafel and shawarma. It also lists several Italian pasta dishes, like shrimp scampi, cheese ravioli and chicken masala, and some unusual things like lamb ribs and manoushi, which is a sort of Mediterranean pizza.
And on Monday, Old Tokyo Steakhouse opened in the spot at 6821 W. Taft (behind the west-side Kohl’s) that has held several Japanese Steakhouse restaurants over the years, most recently the short-lived Nagasaki Steakhouse.
The new restaurant, which offers the Japanese hibachi performances Wichita seems to love, is owned by the family that once had Tokyo Steakhouse in Wichita. Its hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are available at 316-260-8588.
