Dining With Denise Neil

Wichita is back down to one location of this popular doughnut shop

They gave it nearly a year, but in the end, it just wasn’t busy enough.

So at the end of the day on Saturday, Tariq Azmi closed the east-side location of The Donut Whole, which he opened last January at 3750 N. Woodlawn.

“The business just never picked up,” Azmi said. “ There’s just a different clientele on the east side compared to downtown.”

Azmi and his wife, Raissa, took over the original Donut Whole at 1720 E. Douglas in 2018 after co-founder Michael Carmody filed for bankruptcy protection and sold the business. The downtown shop originally opened in 2009.

By the end of that last year, they’d announced plans to expand the business into the spot on North Woodlawn where Hurts Donut had closed in 2017.

Azmi said that he finished up a few church deliveries and pickups on Sunday before closing the shop for good.
