Wichita’s first ‘Chipotlane’ is about to open. Time to review how it works
The arrival of Wichita’s first “Chipotlane” is exactly a week away, and it’s time to review how it works.
Those watching the construction of Wichita’s newest Chipotle, which has been going up since this summer on the site of the former Payless ShoeSource building at 21st and Amidon, may have noticed that the sign appeared on the building this week. They may also have noticed that the building has a window on the south-facing side that looks conspicuously like a drive-through.
I’ve just learned that opening day for that Chipotle, Wichita’s sixth, will be next Wednesday, Dec. 18. That’s when customers can start utilizing the window. It won’t operate like a traditional drive-through, but it will allow people who have ordered in advance online or via their mobile apps to pick up their food without getting out of their cars.
The new restaurant will have the newest Chipotle design. Its hours will be 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The last time Chipotle opened a restaurant in Wichita was 2012, when a new one arrived at 7130 W. Maple. Derby added a Chipotle four years ago.
The other Wichita Chipotle restaurants are at Kellogg and Rock, at 29th and Rock, at 21st and Maize and at Central and Hillside.
