New Wichita taco restaurant opens with a buffet line made out of a sliced-in-half truck
The new taco buffet restaurant belonging to Gaga’s Grub taco truck owner Dustin Presley opened today at 3088 W. 13th St., and the interior features the same whimsical vibe that the owner projects.
Presley, who called his recently closed truck “Ugliest Taco Truck,” has created a dining space that’s anything but ugly.
Inside the new Gaga’s Grub Taco Joint and Carry Out, which opened in a space that formerly held a laundromat, Presley has split an old catering truck in half and turned it into his buffet.
People go through the first half of the truck to get their tortillas and pork or chicken. The second half, set up nearby, includes toppings like pico de gallo, cilantro and onion, chopped jalapenos and pico de gallo. The restaurant does not have beef, sour cream, corn tortillas, fried tacos, rice, beans, lettuce guacamole or nacho cheese sauce, and a sign at the entrance announces that fact to anyone thinking about asking.
Presley furnished the restaurant with an eclectic collection of tables and chairs, and the wig-wearing mannequin that has become his mascot holds a tip jar near the front.
Customers can get all-you-can eat access to the buffet for $11 or $6 for kids. Small to-go boxes are $7 and large to-go boxes are $10.
It’ll be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
