Another Wichita food trucker is opening a restaurant, this one with a taco buffet
Dustin Presley is so done with his Gaga’s Grub taco truck, he says.
But fans of his tacos will be relieve to hear that he’s not done feeding Wichita.
Presley is planning to open a little “taco joint” next door to the space at 3088 W. 13th St. where he’s been hosting private dinners, which he calls “P.M. Sessions” for more than a year.
He’s calling the new place Gaga’s Grub Taco Joint and Carry Out.
Presley took over and remodeled the old Indian Hills Laundry space to his east at 3080 W. 13th St. and soon will open it three days a week, serving the taco buffet he’s made famous at charity events around town. The buffet will allow customers to fill soft flour tortillas with Presley’s signature chicken and pork plus toppings. They also can choose from 16 homemade salsas and sauces.
Presley said he’ll have about 40 seats in the restaurant and people will be able to either dine in or take the tacos to go. Customers can purchase either an adult or kid buffet and dine in, refilling their plates as many times as they want, or they can buy and fill a large or small to-go box.
He’s tentatively planning to open the buffet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
Presley first brought his truck, affectionately dubbed Ugliest Taco Truck, to Wichita in 2016, but he parked it for good more than two months ago, he said.
There were just too many variables with truck life, he said. The truck would break down at inopportune times or the weather would be horrible or he’d show up for an event expecting 200 customers and get 20.
“It’s not reliable,” he said “It’s not consistent.”
Presley said he’ll still put on his P.M. sessions, which are private eight-course dinners people can book any night of the week for groups of six to 12. He’s also still available for catering jobs.
Opening day is not far away, Presley said, and he promised to let me know when he was ready to go.
