Wichita’s west-side Cracker Barrel opened on Monday, and it’s been hard for those visiting not to notice the giant restaurant-shaped building going up right next door.
Finally this week, the Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen corporate office has confirmed that the building is in fact the future site of Wichita’s second Cheddar’s. The address is 535 S. Ridge Road Circle.
They’re also providing a rough estimate for when it will be ready: spring 2019.
The rumor that Wichita would get a west-side Cheddar’s was circulating for months before the corporate office confirmed it in July. But a spokeswoman would never say exactly where the company planned to build.
In August, people started sharing with the Eagle bid reports that indicated the chain was planning to build on the spot near Maple and Ridge that sits just to the north of the new Cracker Barrel. Both are on the lot where the Palace West Theatre operated for almost three decades before it was demolished in April.
Wichita currently has one Cheddar’s, and it’s always busy. It operates at 11711 E. 13th St. in front of the east-side Warren.
Cheddar’s, a chain based in Texas, has more than 150 restaurants in 28 states. It’s known for its expansive, affordable menu — and for its honey croissants.
One reader pointed out something that made me laugh: When Cheddar’s is finally open next to Cracker Barrel, that corner will be the home of “cheese and crackers.”
Stay tuned for more information about a Cheddar’s opening date.
