Popular Wichita sushi restaurant plans move to new location by the end of February
A Wichita sushi bar is moving, but not far from its current location.
Ninza Sushi Bar, located at 8428 W. 13th St., is moving just across the street, taking over VietNom Nom’s old space at the Tyler Pointe Shopping Center at 8641 W. 13th St., Suite 103.
Ada Yang and her husband, Seong Han, opened the sushi bar 10 years ago. Since then, they opened a location in east Wichita and acquired another restaurant, BlueFin, downtown.
Ninza Sushi, known for its large selection of specialty sushi rolls, will also have an expanded menu to match the east location, which includes hibachi. The new location is a little more than 3,000 square feet, larger than the current location at about 2,388 square feet.
The thought of moving has been in Yang’s mind for a while, but it never came to fruition until recently.
“I thought about moving from time to time because obviously the store is so small compared to the other ones I have,” she said.
A space never opened up for them, however, until VietNom Nom announced its closure.
“It’s like meant to be,” she said.
The next location includes a new patio space and a nicer kitchen. Han said he is most excited about creating a space that is more comfortable for employees and customers.
Britteny Schmidt has been the general manager of Ninza Sushi for five years. She said watching the restaurant grow has been her favorite part.
“It’s really cool seeing the start of the business, when I worked at the west location,” Schmidt said. “It was like three people in there, and just to see how far [it’s come.]”
Yang said they are focusing on improving the experience of their customers and employees. Then, more business should happen organically.
“The reason we moved is not to expect more business, our goal is to just have a better environment for both our employees and customers,” Yang said. “Of course, it’s great if you are getting more business and I just think with the space … I think that’s going to happen no matter what.”
While the official opening date for the new location isn’t finalized, they are expecting to move in by the end of February.
