Three bits of restaurant news
1. Newport Grill: That's the name of the seafood restaurant that will fill the former Cibola space at Bradley Fair. The restaurant is a new concept by PB&J, the Kansas City-based company that owns Yia Yia's Eurobistro. It will specialize in fresh fish and should open in November.
2. Anchor expansion:
The Anchor, the popular downtown restaurant and bar at 1109 E. Douglas, is planning an expansion that will include knocking down a wall that separates the two sides of the bar, rebuilding the actual bar and adding a banquet/party room space. The remodel will allow The Anchor to have 60 beers on tap instead of 46. Construction should start soon.
3. Another Jimmy's Egg: Clear Lakes Cafe, which closed recently at 2315 W. 21st St., will reopen as a Jimmy's Egg.
A GOOD DEAL
If you're the lucky type, you can get free coffee every morning from 7 to 9 a.m. at Watermark Books, 4701 E. Douglas. The store's cute cafe, which serves breakfast and lunch, allows customers to flip a coin, call it in the air, and get their coffee (brewed only, not the fancy drinks) for free if they call it correctly.
QUICK BITES
Wine dinners
Two tasty wine dinners will take place in the next few days. The first is Saturday at Oeno Wine Bar , 330 N. Mead. The event is called Savor the Summer and will feature a five-course dinner, each course paired with a corresponding wine. (Pork scaloppine over fettucine is among the entrees on the menu.) The cost is $40 a person, and it starts at 7 p.m. Call 316-440-5000 for a reservation. Then, on Tuesday, Yia Yia's Eurobistro is putting on a Spanish wine dinner that's $65 a person and will feature five courses and five wines. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and will include dishes such as wood oven roasted quail. Call 316-634-1000 for reservations.
Free Hyatt munchies
The Harvest Kitchen/Bar inside the Hyatt, downtown at 400 W. Waterman, is now offering a daily themed appetizer buffet that'll be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Mondays are Cajun night, for example, and Thursdays are Mexican night. The buffet is free with the purchase of an alcoholic drink, and as an added bonus, the hotel will validate your parking when you eat or drink at the restaurant. Call 316-613-6300 for more information.
