8 fun things to do in the Wichita area this weekend (Aug. 6-7, 2016)

Welcome to the weekends of August, and one of the few before school starts. Here are some of the things going on in the Wichita area this Saturday and Sunday.

Back-to-school bash at the zoo, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Blvd.; $1 admission, free for members; www.scz.org.

Chalk Art Festival, free chalk provided for sidewalk drawing, plus music, and extra activities for a charge, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Second and Mead streets; free, or $5, $3 for ages 12 and under for refreshments and additional crafts and activities.

Sixth annual TFExpo, a gathering of “Transformers” fans from across the country, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Hotel at Old Town, 830 E. First St.; $20 and $15, children 4 and under free; www.tf-expo.com.

Meet a Hawk, 11 a.m. Saturday, Kansas Wildlife Exhibit at Central Riverside Park, 720 N. Nims; free.
