Chalk Art Festival
Chalk will be provided for anyone to come to Old Town Square on Saturday and create sidewalk art for free. Live music and fountains will be part of the festivities, and additional activities and treats will be available if you buy a wristband. Included in the wristband purchase are a sno-cone, crafts, face painting, hair chalk, water games, a photo booth, bottle of water, raffle ticket and chalk board truck. The festival is sponsored by EmberHope and Kansas Kids Fund.

Back-to-school bash at the zoo
It’ll be harder to get to the zoo once school starts. So the Sedgwick County Zoo is putting on a Back-to-School-Bash on Saturday, when admission will be $1 a person. The event lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and visitors are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate – though they’re not required for the discount admission.

Meet a hawk at the park FREE ALERT
If you’ve never had the opportunity to meet a hawk, you’ll get one this weekend at the “Meet a Hawk” event at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit at Central Riverside Park, 720 N. Nims. A keeper will talk about the hawks at the exhibit and about other raptors in who live in Kansas. All ages are welcome.

Yoga and wine
The Wichita Art Museum is putting on its Yoga & Wine Night on Friday, where people can participate in a yoga class by Limitless Yoga put on under the colorful Chihuly glass. The class is open to beginners as well as experienced yoga practitioners, and mats will be available for those who need one. When it’s over, participants can enjoy wine and conversation.

District Marketplace’s first moved market FREE ALERT
The organizers of the District Marketplace, a craft market and food truck event, have moved to a new spot and a new day. Though Janelle King’s Workroom will continue to operate Second Saturday markets at 150 N. Cleveland, Donnie Hutchins will have his kickoff event on Saturday at 675 S. Commerce. The event will feature local art, farmers, live music from acts like Nikki Moddelmog and Aaron Lee Martin and food trucks including The Big Apple, The Flying Stove, Dappery Dodo Breakfast Burritos and Lil’Bit Gourmet Burgers.

Begonias and Bourbon Press
Red-dirt-country musicians Tim Jonas & the Whiskey Militia will perform at the next Tuesdays on the Terrace at Botanica, 701 N. Amidon. The weekly theme is Begonias and Bourbon Press. The after-work festivities start at 6 p.m. Tuesday and run until 8, featuring dinner and drinks for sale along with the music and all of Botanica’s gardens to explore.

Groove 42 at KEYN concert (free alert)
There are two more opportunities to celebrate summer at the KEYN Summer Concert Series at WaterWalk, 515 S. Main. Rock band Groove 42 will perform this Friday, Aug. 5, and food trucks will include Xclusive Booze Truck, Drink Local Truck, ICT Fried, Funky Munky Munchies, Let’m Eat Brats, the Brown Box Bakery and Big Chill Ice Cream. Doors and food trucks open at 6:30 p.m., and the band takes the stage at 8. The concert is free; bring a lawn chair.

Transformers convention
The sixth annual TFExpo, a gathering of “Transformers” fans from across the country, happens 2 to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5-6, at the Hotel at Old Town. The event, designed for fans of the 1980s toys and action figures, on Saturday will feature Michael Bell, a voice actor in the original “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” cartoons, and David Kaye, best known for his role as Megatron in “Beast Wars.” General admission at the door on Friday is $15, $10 for children and members of the military with ID.
