8 fun things to do in the Wichita area this weekend (Dec. 12 and 13)

Holiday events are in full throttle this second weekend of December, with several events ongoing, and some taking place just this weekend. Here are some of the happenings in the Wichita area on Saturday and Sunday:

Season’s Treatings and Santa at the Barn at the Sedgwick County Zoo, animals receive treats from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (check scz.org for scheduled times); see Santa along with animal demonstrations at the barn from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, 5555 W. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” presented by the Wichita Children’s Theatre & Dance Center, 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, Wichita Center for the Arts, 9112 E. Central; $6; 316-262-2282, www.wctdc.com.

“A Christmas Carol” by Forum Theatre, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday (also 8 p.m. Thursday through Dec. 19 and 2 p.m. Dec. 19), Scottish Rite Center, 332 E. First St.; $23 matinee, $25 evening; www.forumwichita.com, 316-618-0444.

Drive-Through Christmas light displays and narrated scenes from the events surrounding Jesus’ birth, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday (plus Dec. 18 and 19), Countryside Christian Church, 1919 S. Living nativity, 6, 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, plus Advent and wooden toy displays, coffee bar, organ demonstrations, East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E. Douglas; free (takes place during the College Hill Holiday Lights Trolley Tour, which is sold out).
