What to do in Wichita this weekend: Hunt for Easter eggs, hear some Easter tunes

It’s Easter weekend in Wichita, and the city will be filled with ways to celebrate the spring season, including egg hunts, Easter concerts, time with tulips and more.

Following are some of the fun activities to choose from:

Easter egg hunts

Saturday, various locations in and around Wichita

Several Wichita churches and venues are putting on Easter egg hunts for the kids to enjoy. Here are some of the biggies planned for Wichita on Saturday:

Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd.: The zoo should be rather busy this weekend. Not only is its new Stingray Cove exhibit opening on Friday, but from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday the zoo will put on its Easter Eggstravaganza featuring an unorthodox Easter Egg Hunt in which the Easter Bunny hides giant eggs around the zoo that visitors must help find. The event will also include games and other activities. It’s free with regular zoo admission.

All Star Sports, 8333 W. 21st St., and All Star Adventures, 1010 N. Webb Road: These sister entertainment venues are both putting on Easter egg hunts on Saturday. They start at 10 a.m. and are $5 a child. Hunters should bring their own baskets and prepare to pose for photos with the Easter bunny. Chicken N Pickle, 1240 N. Greenwich: This venue will celebrate Easter from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and will offer egg hunts, pickleball with the Easter Bunny for kids, face painting and more. Admission is free.

Two Brothers BBQ, 6730 W. Central: This west-side restaurant will serve brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday then will offer a 2 p.m. coloring sheet contest and a 3 p.m. Easter egg hunt. The Easter Bunny will be around starting at 10 a.m. Bring your own basket.

Walters Pumpkin Patch, 10001 NW US Highway 77, Burns: This popular Halloween hangout is going all Easter on Saturday with an event that will include Easter eggs being dropped from a plane, face time with baby animals, breakfast and more. Egg drops happen at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and the event lasts until 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 at walterspumpkinpatch.ticketspice.com/easter-eggsplosion-2022

Easter Sunday concert at The Arb

4 p.m. Sunday, Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N. Line St., Belle Plaine

The Bartlett Arboretum in nearby Belle Plaine has launched its annual Treehouse Concert series, which features Sunday-afternoon concerts through November. This weekend’s Easter Sunday concert will feature Switchgrass String Quartet, which performs everything from Mozart to jazz to Sufi chants. Gates for the show open at 3 p.m., and the show starts at 4 p.m. Admission is $10 at the gate, and visitors are welcome to bring picnics or get food from on-site vendors.

Last chance for Tulip Festival

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Botanica, 701 Amidon

Botanica’s Tulip Festival has been going on for the past two Saturdays and wraps up this Saturday. Visitors have one last chance to visit the festival, where they can gaze at the venue’s 66,000 tulips in 110 different varieties plus hear live music, eat at food trucks and partake in face painting, carousel rides, a petting zoo and more. The festival’s hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adult admission is $12 and youth and members are $9. Tickets must be purchased in advance at botanica.org/tulip-fest/

Easter bells will be ringing

Noon, Friday, Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main

The annual Bloomfield Carillon Easter weekend concert will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum. The bells will be played from the fifth floor of the museum by organist Lynne Davis. For the best sound, listeners are advised to sit outside the museum. Admission is free.

Rap show at WSU

8 p.m. Friday, Koch Arena, 1845 Fairmount St.

Tickets are still available for a performance by Grammy-nominated rapper Wale, who will be at Wichita State University’s Koch Arena on Friday. Wale, who grew up in Washington, D.C., was discovered in 2006 and released his first album in 2009. He’s also known for performing before President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union Address. His show starts at 8 p.m. The show, which was put together by WSU’s Student Activities Council, starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the Koch Arena Box Office or at wichita.edu/concert.
