Update on Starlite Drive-In’s plans to open in Wichita this weekend

Updated 10:40 p.m. Thursday, March 26: Late on Thursday, Sedgwick County spokesman Van Williams said that the Starlite Drive-In is not an essential business under the stay-at-home order issued Tuesday and will not open this weekend. More details available by following this link.

It might not be an “essential business.”

But the Starlite Drive-In at 3900 S. Hydraulic is one entertainment venue in Wichita that, with some modifications, can still be open amid Sedgwick County’s stay-at-home order.

The movie theater got the approval from the county and city to go ahead and show movies this weekend, managers said, and it will be showing films on both screens Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, March 27-29.

But there will be a few changes to keep people safe.

The concession stand will be closed, so moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

The restrooms will be open, but no speakers will be handed out, so visitors will have to have FM radios to pick up the audio.

Managers also have devised a plan for “touchless” entry and are encouraging people to buy their tickets in advance at https://www.starlitefun.com/ and print them out at home or have them ready to show on their phones. Tickets will be $8 a person for ages 12 and up on Friday and Saturdy and $7 a person on Sunday. Prices for ages 3 to 11 are $4 on Friday and Saturday and $3 on Sunday.

The theater is also asking that anyone who feels sick stay at home.

Here’s the drive-in’s weekend schedule:

Screen Two

Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not - but he’s on a mission to find out.
