Darius Fudge scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with just more than three minutes remaining and the Wichita Wild held on for a 32-20 win over the winless Colorado Ice on Saturday night at Loveland, Colo.
Fudge led the Wild with 86 yards rushing, 29 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Defensive end Collin Bryant led the Wichita defense with four sacks and Randy Kelley added six tackles and an interception.
Former University of Colorado running back Bobby Purefoy started the scoring for the Ice with a 6-yard touchdown run. Colorado quarterback David Knighton connected with Leman Casimier and Cory Sleeth for a pair of touchdown passes to give the Ice an 18-12 lead at halftime.
Knighton passed for 192 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Wild quarterback Dixie Wooten didn't have as big of numbers — 155 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions — but had a key completion on a point-after attempt that proved to be the difference in the game.
After Fudge's 7-yard touchdown run in he third quarter, Wooten passed to Fudge for two points on the conversion attempt.
It was the only successful conversion for either team on the night.
Wichita improved to 6-3 with the victory and Colorado dropped to 0-9.
The Wild travels to play the Sioux City Bandits next Saturday and return home May 22 to take on the San Angelo Stampede.
