Rising on the charts
As their senior seasons wind down, every game is a chance for Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet to set a marker.
On Wednesday, VanVleet scored eight points to pass Paul Guffrovich (1987-91) for 23rd on WSU’s career scoring list. VanVleet has 1,255 points. He played in his 126th game, tying P.J. Couisnard for ninth. He played in his 98th victory, matching Toure Murry.
Baker played in his 96th win, seventh on WSU’s list. He had six steals, which give him 146 for his career, two behind Aubrey Sherrod and Couisnard, who are tied for sixth.
Worth noting
Coaches from both staffs wore tennis shoes as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers program.… WSU’s Anton Grady grabbed career rebound No. 800 early in the first half. He came to WSU with 724 in 104 games at Cleveland State … Loyola’s Milton Doyle wears a white orthopedic shirt under his uniform, part of his recovery from a torn labrun in his right shoulder. He received a waiver from the NCAA to wear a color different from his jersey.… WSU won its seventh straight over the Ramblers. It is 5-0 against Loyola since it joined the MVC and is the only MVC team unbeaten against the Ramblers.
