Wichita State women pop Ohio State 70-55
Score 39 points in a loss to Florida Gulf Coast, score 70 in a big win over Ohio State.
Sure, big names and no-names don’t always mean much in college sports, but Wichita State’s women righted themselves on Friday in the Paradise Jam tournament with a solid 15-point victory over Ohio State in the Virgin Islands.
That comes a day after a 17-point loss to Florida Gulf Coast. The Shockers finish up the round-robin tournament against Clemson on Saturday.
Michaela Dapprich led WSU (3-2) with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5 of 7 behind the three-point line. Teammate Alex Harden had 14 poitns, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The Shockers shot 48.4 percent from the field and did better at the three-point line (10 of 20). All that, and WSU didn’t attempt a free throw.
WSU led by 11 at halftime, forcing 11 Ohio State turnovers in the first half. The Shockers then shot 55.6 percent in the second half – 6 of 10 on three-pointers – to lead by as many as 24 before the final margin.
Ohio State (3-3) was led by Kelsey Mitchell’s 19 points.
