Wichita State’s Derail Green will transfer

Redshirt freshman Derail Green is leaving Wichita State’s men’s basketball program, according to coach Gregg Marshall.

Green, from Houston, played in 28 games and averaged 4.9 minutes and 1.1 points. He scored a season-high eight points against Bradley.

“He was worried about playing time,” Marshall said. “At some point, he wants to play.”

Green, a 6-foot-7 forward, came to WSU from Klein Forest High, the same school that produced Toure Murry. He redshirted in 2012-13. He came to WSU with a reputation as an excellent shooter and made 8 of 28 three-pointers this season.

WSU is bringing in wing players Zach Brown from Sunrise Christian Academy, Rashard Kelly from Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy and Eric Hamilton of Duluth (Ga.).

Green’s departure opens up a scholarship for the Shockers, who are likely looking for a transfer big man to help replace seniors Chadrack Lufile, Cleanthony Early and Kadeem Coleby. One possibility is Harcum (Pa.) College forward Jordan Goodman, who averaged 18.1 points and 6.6 rebounds. Goodman, 6-foot-9, was named to the NJCAA All-American team.
