With four games left in the regular season, Neosho County freshman third baseman Brylie Ware is chasing NJCAA history.

Ware, a Sedgwick product, has a shot at the first NJCAA Triple Crown since 1985, when Trinidad State’s Scott Jaster led the nation in batting average, home runs and runs batted in.

According to NJCAA assistant media relations director Michael Teague, baseball statistics have only been kept since 1981. Ware leads the nation in batting average (.590), RBIs (115) and is tied for the home runs lead with Hutchinson’s Caden Doga with 27.

No. 1 Neosho County (44-7, 25-7 Jayhawk) has four games left in the regular season and a three-game lead in the Jayhawk East over Kansas City Kansas (34-15, 22-10). All four games are against KCK — two games at KCK on Thursday and two games in Chanute on Saturday.

Here’s how Ware’s Triple Crown chase breaks down:

Batting average (.590) — Clarendon’s Hosea Nelson is second in the nation with a .544 batting average, but has eight games left in the regular season compared to just four for Ware.

RBI (115) — Colby’s Marvin Malone is second in the nation with 94 RBIs and five regular-season games left. Ware appears to have this one locked up.

HR (27) — This is where things get really interesting. Ware tied Hutchinson’s Chase Doga for the lead with a home run in an 8-4 loss at Crowder on Tuesday. Both Ware and Doga have already set their school’s single-season records for home runs. Hutchinson has five regular-season games left. They play today at Barton, then finish the regular season with doubleheaders against MCC-Longview on Saturday and Sunday in Hutchinson.
