Carlos Strickland, a former four-star receiver ranked among the top 150 recruits in the nation, is headed to Kansas State.

Strickland joins the Wildcats from California, where began his college football career playing for the Golden Bears. He announced two weeks ago he would transfer to a school closer to his Dallas home. He chose K-State Tuesday, following a brief recruitment process.

“Electrified to announce that I am continuing my football career at Kansas State,” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

Strickland is a redshirt freshman. He will be eligible to play for the Wildcats starting in 2017 and have three years of eligibility remaining after he sits out a year in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. Though he didn’t play at Cal, he turned heads as a playmaker at Skyline High School in Dallas. He was the nation’s 132nd ranked recruit in the 2015 class, according to Rivals.

His talents could be a big addition to K-State’s offense.

Strickland decided to transfer from Cal in order to be closer to his family, including his ailing grandfather.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity I’ve had at UC Berkeley and will never forget the memories I’ve shared with my peers,” Strickland wrote on Twitter earlier this month. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my time at Cal. I wish the program the best this season and in the years to come.”

Strickland was in line to play this season for the Bears, but coach Sonny Dykes blessed his departure.

“I hate to lose him,” Dykes told reporters following Strickland’s transfer. “Wish him the best.”
