Kansas State football lands another in-state commitment from Newton’s Aidan Mills

Aidan Mills was in no rush to commit to a college football team when the week began, but a few friends changed his mind.

Mills, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle from Newton, orally committed to Kansas State on Wednesday after speaking with a pair of other in-state blockers with K-State futures, Ben Adler and Josh Rivas.

“Yesterday, we were at a photo shoot for the top offensive linemen in Kansas,” Mills said. “Both Rivas and Adler were there, and they both said they committed to Kansas State. They were talking to me about committing. I was already planning on committing at the time, but they convinced me to commit sooner than I was planning on.

“They were saying they think if we all go there, then, by the time we are seniors, we will be a really strong offensive line and win a lot of games.”

Mills agreed, so he joined a growing list of in-state talent in K-State’s 2017 recruiting class. Harrison Creed (Ulysses), Adler (Trinity Academy) and Rivas (Hutchinson) have all committed to K-State in the past week. All four play on the offensive line. Add on Tecumseh defensive end Wyatt Hubert, K-State’s first 2017 commit, and five of the Wildcats newest recruits play high school football in the Sunflower State.

“They are all really cool guys,” Mills said. “I can’t wait to play with them.”

Mills is a two-way player for Newton, also lining up at defensive end. He enjoys playing both positions, but plans to focus on blocking when he gets to K-State. His size should enable him to play multiple spots on the Wildcats’ offensive line, though he views himself as a tackle.

He said he also received recruiting interest from Wyoming, South Dakota and Illinois State, but K-State easily stood out from that group.

The Wildcats have recruited him since his sophomore year and offered a scholarship earlier this month. Now he’s ready to play for them, and link up with some friends when he arrives.

“I really like the coaches and the atmosphere at Kansas State,” Mills said. “It’s a great program filled with really respectable guys that will make me better. When you go into that program you come out a better person.”
