Matthew Snyder, the grandson of Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder and the son of special teams coordinator Sean Snyder, died last week of asphyxiation, according to a Riley County Police Department report obtained through an open records request.

Riley County Police Department spokeswoman Hali Rowland said the death had been ruled a suicide.

Matthew Snyder was 22.

He died at his home in Manhattan last Wednesday. Riley County police responded to an emergency call made by Sean Snyder, according to the police document. No one else was injured and no foul play is suspected.

The Snyder family will hold Matthew’s funeral on Thursday at a Manhattan church, and are requesting only family and friends to attend. K-State issued a media advisory Tuesday asking media to respect the family’s privacy at the event.
