Kellis Robinett’s college football rankings (Sept. 21)

Some wild scores led to some big changes in my Associated Press Top 25 ballot.

Let’s break it down:

Movement up top: I voted Florida State No. 1 on my preseason ballot and left the Seminoles there until now, mostly because they won a national championship last year. But they aren’t playing well enough to remain in the top spot. They haven’t looked dominant in any of their games. While beating Clemson without Jameis Winston is commendable, Florida State’s body of work isn’t as impressive as others.

Oklahoma moves up to the top spot after dropping 45 points on West Virginia in a tough road environment. Auburn jumps from fifth to second, because it has something on its resume few others can match – a road win over a ranked opponent. Alabama stays at third, Oregon remains at fourth and Florida State finds its new spot at fifth.

Biggest jump: Mississippi State. Like many, I was sleeping on the undefeated Bulldogs. But they looked good winning at LSU. After a 4-0 start, they go from unranked to 14th. With Auburn and Texas A&M up next, they have a shot to really move up (or fall) from here.

Biggest drop: LSU fell from seventh to 19th. There’s no shame in losing to Mississippi State, but a home loss has to be penalized.

See you later: It may be a while before Missouri makes its way back onto my ballot. The Tigers lost at home to Indiana on Saturday, a defeat that no top 25 team should suffer. Indiana lost to Bowling Green last week. I also dropped Ohio State and Washington out of my poll, despite victories. Ohio State’s loss to Virginia Tech looks worse by the day, while Washington simply hasn’t looked as good as other teams.

New arrivals: Mississippi State, Duke and Utah are all new in my poll. I already touched on Mississippi State. Duke is 4-0 with four blowout victories. Utah is also undefeated with a road victory over Michigan.
