Bo Jackson patiently tells teen who he is (VIDEO)
If you’re a certain age – say older than 34 – the athletic exploits of Bo Jackson are probably legendary.
The former Kansas City Royal won the MVP of the 1989 All-Star Game for hitting a towering home run off of Rick Reuschel to lead off the bottom of the first inning in Anaheim, Calif.
At Auburn, he won the Heisman Trophy and was selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He didn’t sign with the Bucs, but eventually he played at a Pro Bowl-level in the NFL with the Los Angeles Raiders.
And then there were all of those “Bo Knows” Nike TV commercials.
But if you’re only 13, like Drake LaRoche, the son of Chicago White Sox first baseman Adam LaRoche? Bo Jackson probably hasn’t made an impression on you yet.
Drake certainly didn’t seem to have known Jackson when Bo visited the White Sox during spring training. In a video released by the White Sox, Jackson patiently explains his entire career to the younger LaRoche.
“Ever heard of the Heisman Trophy?” Jackson asks at one point.
We don’t fault the kid for not knowing who Jackson was.
It’s just too bad Bo didn’t play in today’s social media age, where every one of his amazing plays would’ve been instantly turned into a GIF and shared on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
It’s also a little unfortunate that a son of the 35-year-old Adam LaRoche, who lives in Kansas in the offseason, would have missed one of the biggest stars to ever wear a Royals uniform.
But now he probably knows Bo.
