Letters on sowing death, love, Walters, Dennis, voting guide
Culture teaches that life doesn’t matter
Black lives matter. So do white lives and red lives. Brown lives matter. Every life matters.
So why all the rhetoric? Why the protests? We are trying to convince ourselves that life matters. Americans don’t really believe that life matters.
America is in a downhill slide and is picking up speed. The Bible teaches that what we sow we will reap. We have sown a disregard for the value of human life. We might protest in public, but the truth is that abortion has ended more lives than bullets ever did.
Our culture teaches “life doesn’t matter” while we loudly proclaim that it does in the city square. If we keep sowing death, we will continue to reap death. The answer to America’s cultural, moral and spiritual decline is God. Pray for America.

Bring back love
It seems to me as if there is at least one shooting massacre a week now. I am beyond tired of it. Aren’t you tired of it?
We need to do something about these shootings. I believe the solution is simply this: love. I think this slaughtering would cease if we simply starting loving one another.
I propose we bring back love in 2016. Who is with me? We will never know if we don’t try.

Walters experienced
There are two fine candidates for Division 14 of the 18th Judicial District. Linda Kirby is an attorney with experience in estate planning and taxation. She has written a book and does some teaching regarding the same. However, Judge Patrick Walters has eight years of experience on the bench and is well-versed in all aspects of the law, having served in the family law, criminal, civil and juvenile courts.
Walters is certified by the National Judicial College to handle capital murder cases. He trains court-appointed special advocates and frequently speaks at the Sedgwick County co-parenting classes. He has assisted in more than 100 adoptions. Walters is endorsed by the Kansans for Life political action committee.
I believe that experience matters. Judge Patrick Walters is obviously the best candidate for District Court Division 14.

Elect Dennis
On Aug. 2, I will vote for Col. David Dennis for District 3 Sedgwick County commissioner for three reasons.
First, he will support the Sedgwick County Zoo, our community treasure. His opponent, Karl Peterjohn, broke promises and cut funding for the zoo. He also wants the government to micromanage the zoo.
Second, Dennis will listen to his constituents in District 3. I know many people whom Peterjohn has lectured rather than listened to. Peterjohn goes on regular rants about federal issues and history lessons when we need a commissioner who will focus on us and our local issues.
Third, Dennis can smartly manage the budget for Sedgwick County. Last year, Peterjohn voted for deficit spending.
We have a chance on Aug. 2 to elect David Dennis, a retired colonel who has spent his life leading and serving.

Consult voting guide
The Kansas Chamber of Commerce is up to its usual election antics – trying to scare voters into voting for Brownback Republicans by distorting the positions of moderate opponents.
While the chamber is using the Women for Kansas Voting Guide as a source of its distortions, you can see the truth by going to the guide at womenforkansas.org. The guide has three parts:
▪ “Where Do the Candidates Stand” contains the answers to questionnaires that were mailed to 201 new legislative candidates across the state. You’ll quickly see where candidates really stand based on their responses.
▪ “Lift the Shade” shows how the voting records of incumbent legislators match up with your values.
▪ The voting guide is the compilation of the information from the first two parts with letter grades assigned to each candidate.
If you, like 72 percent of Kansans who disapprove of Gov. Sam Brownback and the policies enacted by this Legislature, intend to return the state to moderation, do not be swayed by postcards containing false facts.
Before you vote in this most critical election, feel confident about the candidates’ true positions. Consult the Women for Kansas Voting Guide.
