Police: Stafford woman confesses to shooting, killing husband
A 35-year-old Stafford woman is in the Barton County Jail after confessing to fatally shooting her husband Thursday night, according to a news release from the Stafford Police Department.
Stafford officers responded to the shooting just after 11 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of North Keystone, according to the release.
The first officer on scene made contact with 35-year-old Misty Salem, “who was hysterical shouting she shot him,” Stafford Police Chief Doug Brown said in the release.
She was taken into custody, and officers recovered a gun from the front yard of the house, officers said.
Emergency Medical Services attempted to resuscitate her husband, identified as 41-year-old Samuel Salem, but he was pronounced dead of a single gunshot wound at the scene.
The couple had two children, and one was home at the time of the shooting. Another had left with a grandparent just before the shooting, Brown said in the release.
The children have been placed with family members, according to the release.
Misty Salem was taken to the Barton County Jail, interviewed, and later booked on suspicion of second-degree murder. She is being held on a $1 million bond, according to the release.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing as of Saturday, the release said.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Department and the St. John Police Department also assisted in the case.
