Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky will run in the Kansas Republican presidential caucus, according to a news release Tuesday.

He’s the ninth Republican candidate to file paperwork for the March 5 presidential caucus in Kansas.

“Senator Paul spoke at numerous Kansas events in support of Senator Pat Roberts’ re-election, and we welcome him back,” said state party chairman Kelly Arnold in the release.

Paul was elected to the Senate in 2010. He’s the son of Ron Paul, the former Texas congressman who ran for president in 2008 and 2012.

Like his father, Rand Paul often appeals to the libertarian wing of the Republican Party. Paul has struggled in national polls against the crowded Republican field. He was not included in last week’s mainstage Republican debate in South Carolina.

Businessman Donald Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former technology executive Carly Fiorina have also filed to run in the Kansas presidential caucus.
