Kansas still not finished processing tax returns for 2014

The Kansas Department of Revenue still is processing paper tax returns for the 2014 tax year. It says it should be finished next week.

Several people have complained they still haven’t received their state tax refunds, even though they filed their taxes months ago and received their federal refunds.

Jeannine Koranda, spokeswoman for the Department of Revenue, said in an e-mail that the agency “should be done processing paper returns (which is what is left) by mid-next week. The majority of what is being run right now are paper returns received on or after May 1.

“If there is a problem with any of these returns … it will delay their refund,” Koranda added.

She said returns also could be delayed if they have been marked to offset debt. Kansas law allows for part of a person’s tax refund to be applied to certain government debts, such as unpaid parking tickets or child support.

Koranda said that anyone with questions about refund delays should call the agency’s customer service line at 785-368-8222.
