Have you heard about the mugshot that unleashed puns around the world?

Police in a New Zealand town are looking for a man who is missing part of his left ear.

“I’ll keep an ear out,” promised one person on Facebook, pledging to help.

Sigh.

Lucas William Vincent’s face has launched hundreds of one-liners and ear puns since his mugshot was posted Sunday on the Facebook page of the Canterbury Police District.

His mugshot had been shared nearly 18,000 times by Tuesday.

Vincent failed to appear in court last week on an assault charge. Authorities warned people not to approach him.

They’re serious, but Facebook is not.

People are visiting the department’s Facebook page just to leave comments about Vincent’s most remarkable physical attribute.

“He’s going to cop an ear full when his mother finds out about this,” wrote Facebook commenter Mike Like, who earned 42,000 likes for his snark.

Speaking of an earful ...

“Does he have any distinguishing features we should watch for????”

“This is what happens when you live life earresponsibly.”

“Think we all just need to ear his side of the story.”

One person, who was obviously paying attention in art appreciation class, noticed the irony that most people missed.

“Seriously?! – no one is going to make a joke about his name? Vincent Van Gogh ... come on guys! Please tell me he stole a van. Vincent Van Gone?”
