Maize to begin interviewing finalists for superintendent

The Maize school board has narrowed its field of superintendent candidates to four and will hold interviews and a public reception for each finalist next week, officials said.

The name of each candidate will be announced on the morning of his or her visit, the district said on its website. Visits will be Monday through Thursday, and the public is invited to a reception with each candidate from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on those days at Maize South Middle School, 3403 N. Tyler Road.

The district is searching for a replacement for Superintendent Doug Powers, who announced his resignation in March and plans to serve through June 30. Powers was named assistant superintendent for business and public relations for the Turner school district in Kansas City, Kan.

Twenty-three candidates applied for the position, according to the news release. Board members met Wednesday evening to discuss the search and identify finalists.
