Can you help solve this crime? (July 16, 2016)
The crime
At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, a resident living in the 5700 block of East Chadowes – near North Woodlawn and 17th Street – was doing yard work on the north side of his house when he was approached by a white man in his late teens to mid-20s. The young man said he was looking for work and asked whether he could mow his yard. They discussed prices, and he said he would come back the following day. He walked away, and the man continued working in his yard.
About 10 minutes later, the resident noticed an unoccupied SUV, with its motor running, parked next to the curb. When he went into his garage he saw the young man in his kitchen. He yelled at him, and the young man ran to the SUV and drove off in reverse.
The resident discovered cash and jewelry had been taken, including a gold ring belonging to his son. The ring is from the 2004 Greece Para Olympics. It was given to team USA for its tennis championship.
