1-year-old injured in Wichita shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in which a 1-year-old child was injured.

Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said Monday that police learned about the incident, which occurred in the 1600 block of South Volutsia, at around midnight Sunday.

A 20-year-old man said he was getting into his vehicle, where his 20-year-old girlfriend and her 1-year-old son were sitting, when three men got his attention by calling his name. The victim said the three men began shooting at the car.

The man was able to back his red Kia down the street, away from the shooters, to a QuikTrip, where he called police. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, his girlfriend received minor injuries from a ricocheted bullet, and the 1-year-old received a gunshot wound to his foot.

The child was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the man drove himself. The woman refused treatment.

Davidson encouraged anyone with information to call investigaters at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
