Man gets 15 years in federal prison for two gas station robberies
A Wichita man convicted of taking part in two gas station robberies in December was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison, Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said in a news release.
Roy E. Walls-Guiden, 29, will serve 188 months on two counts of robbing a commercial establishment, according to Tuesday’s release. His partner in crime, 27-year-old Demon L. Anderson of Wichita, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to two counts of robbing a commercial establishment, Beall said.
Anderson is facing up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on Sept. 20.
In their pleas, the men admitted to robbing the Valero gas station at 248 S. Hillside of cash and cigarettes while the clerk was outside on Dec. 4. When the clerk returned, Walls-Guiden pointed a .40-caliber handgun at him before he and Anderson fled, Beall said.
Later that night, the men hit the Petro America gas station at 2838 W. Central but were stopped by a police officer who had set up surveillance at that address and called for backup when he saw Walls-Guiden and Anderson enter the store.
The men were arrested at the station, Beall said. Wichita police and the FBI investigated.
