Woman fatally stabbed after parking-spot argument; suspect jailed
A young woman was fatally stabbed in south Wichita on Saturday night after an argument over a parking spot.
Police were first called to a disturbance in the 4200 block of South Hydraulic at around 10 p.m., according to a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher.
“There was an argument in the parking lot over a parking spot,” said Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, the Wichita Police Department’s public information officer. “There was a fight that occurred.”
“It was reported to officers on scene that the suspect had went into an apartment and then came back out, and that’s when he stabbed the victim one time,” she said.
A 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the upper body. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Another woman was sliced on the left bicep and is expected to recover, Woodrow said.
Woodrow said a suspect was arrested in a nearby apartment. Seth Collins, 38, was booked into the Sedgwick County jail around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.
More details are expected to be released Monday.
