Kansas postal clerk accused of stealing more than $13,000

An Arkansas City woman is facing a federal charge, accused of stealing money from the U.S. Post Office while she worked as a postal clerk.

Micah E. Hutchinson, 25, is accused of issuing herself money orders to the tune of $13,780 from October to December of last year, then cashing and spending the proceeds, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a news release. She was charged in a federal indictment with one count of employee theft from the U.S. Postal Service.

At the time of the alleged thefts, she worked at the Rock, Kan., post office. Rock is an unincorporated community in Cowley County, about 14 miles north of Winfield.

If convicted, Hutchinson faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
