Police: Suspects ID’d in robberies involving ATM withdrawals at gunpoint
Police have arrested one man and have identified a second suspect in connection with several robberies in which victims were forced at gunpoint to withdraw money from ATMs around Wichita.
Leads developed from physical evidence helped identify suspects, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. U.S. marshals arrested a 25-year-old man on Jan. 21 in the 900 block of North Terrace.
A 26-year-old man has been identified as the second suspect in the incidents, Espinoza said, but he has not yet been apprehended.
The arrested suspect, identified as Tyler ONeal Phillips, was booked into jail on suspicion of marijuana possession. Before his arrest, he was charged by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, attempted robbery and aggravated assault.
There were seven cases of people being forced to withdraw money from ATMs in December, Espinoza said. Phillips has been linked to at least three of the incidents, he said.
