A man in his 20s robbed an east-side golf shop Thursday wearing an “ill-fitting brown women’s wig” and a hat, according to Wichita police.

Sgt. Roger Runft said the man walked into the store around 12:55 p.m. and went straight to the counter of the Golf Headquarters, 848 N. Webb, demanding money.

The wig was askew and dangling in his face, “so they knew when he walked in something was odd,” Runft said.

He then demanded money from the cash register, displaying a handgun, Runft said.

After receiving a small amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot, ditching the wig and hat, Runft said.

“The trail went cold – we didn’t find where the suspect ran to,” Runft said.

Two employees and two customers were in the store at the time, he said.

No injuries were reported.
