Man arrested after trying to take Wesley security guard’s gun away
A Wesley Medical Center security guard reported being assaulted by a 57-year-old man in the hospital Saturday morning, Wichita police Sgt. Brian Sigman said.
The 47-year-old security guard reported the man was in the hospital “creating a disturbance,” and made contact with him around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Sigman said.
The man, who police think might have had mental issues, attempted to take the security guard’s gun from him, and a struggle ensued.
Police responded to the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, Sigman said.
“The security guard was considered a law enforcement officer in that capacity,” he said.
No injuries were reported, and the security guard was able to retain his gun.
