A Sedgwick County inmate was found dead in his jail cell late Sunday, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Monday.

The 55-year-old male inmate was booked into jail Friday on a felony charge, according to the release.

Authorities are withholding the inmate’s identity at the request of his family, the release said. The man was found unresponsive at 11 p.m. Sunday. Approximately 45 minutes later, after medical aid was administered, he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death has not been determined, according to the release.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff’s office investigation division were notified of the death.

So far in 2015, this is the fourth person to die in custody.

The first, on Jan. 21, was an elderly inmate battling a terminal illness; the second, Feb. 22, was a 25-year-old man who was being treated for a medical issue; the third, on June 8, was a 55-year-old man whose cause of death has not been determined.
