Derby man who accidentally shot himself is arrested

A Derby man who accidentally shot himself in the thigh has been arrested on suspicion of criminal possession of a firearm, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

A little after midnight Wednesday morning, deputies responded to a shooting in the 3000 block of East 79th South, the office said. The deputies found a 29-year-old Derby man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, and he was taken to a hospital.

An investigation determined that the wound was accidentally self-inflicted, and when the man was released from the hospital, he was booked into jail on suspicion of criminal possession of a firearm; he also had two warrants for his arrest, the office said.
