UPDATED: Man shot in leg during fight with 18-year-old, police say

Updated 1:35 p.m.: Police say an 18-year-old who shot a man in the leg at a home near 17th and Hillside was still on the loose early Thursday afternoon.

The man, 45, knows the teen, who reportedly pulled a gun and fired at him at about 11 a.m. during a fight, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said. The teen ran away afterward.

Police responding to the address, in the 1700 block of North Lorraine, found the man with a bullet wound to his leg. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, received treatment and was released, Davidson said.

Originally, the man was considered to be in critical condition, a Sedgwick County dispatcher said.

Davidson didn’t know what the fight was about or the man’s relationship to the teen.

“Investigators are now working to locate the suspect,” he said at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
