A Sedgwick County postal carrier is accused of stealing mail containing cash and gift cards.

Gary W. Yenzer of Derby primarily took greeting cards and birthday cards then took what was tucked inside, according to an indictment filed Tuesday against the 34-year-old. He was working as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service at the time, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said.

The thefts, which included at least 15 gift cards, occurred in September.

Yenzer is charged with one count of theft by a mail employee, one count of possession of stolen gift cards and one count of aggravated identity theft. If convicted, he faces prison time and up to $250,000 in fines on each count.
