Authorities have now arrested seven of the top 10 people on a list of wanted gang members, a Wichita police official said Tuesday.
On Monday night, U.S. marshals arrested one of the top 10, Marquel D. Dean, 27, in Garland, Texas, said Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred. Local detectives have been working with U.S. marshals over the past month to find Dean, Allred said. Dean is in custody on four felony warrants, he said.
Wichita police are still seeking three men on the list: Tommy Anderson Jr., Marko A. Carr and Rathanak Chea, said Lt. Doug Nolte.
All of the people on the list are known gang members, and most have a history of violent crimes, including aggravated assault or aggravated battery. Some have been suspected of firing guns at other people, Allred said.
“Hopefully, this will curtail some of the violence in our community,” he said of the arrests.
Wichita police issued the top 10 list to the public in late July and encouraged tipsters to call Crime Stoppers or 911. The seven arrests have occurred over the past few months. Some of the arrests were aided by anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers, and some resulted from work by detectives, Allred said.
At the time of its release, Wichita police said it was the first time they had given the public a list of wanted gang members. All of the people on the list have felony warrants and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
People with knowledge about the wanted men can call the gang unit at 316-268-4191, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or 911.
