Prosecutors this week charged a 40-year-old Wichita man with sex crimes against two girls.

Jose A. Navarro faces three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under age 14 and one count of indecent liberties with a child in connection with alleged lewd fondling or touching of the girls when they were as young as 12.

The alleged abuse against one girl began as early as August 2011 and continued until at least May, after she turned 14, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in Sedgwick County District Court. Crimes involving the second girl, also a 12-year-old, allegedly occurred between May and July.

Navarro is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond. He was booked Oct. 25, about two days after the accusations were reported by Wichita police, records show.

Records indicate Navarro is known to the alleged victims. His preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 13.

Aggravated indecent liberties with a child younger than 14 is a Jessica’s Law crime, which draw a mandatory minimum prison sentence of life without parole for 25 years.
