Police investigate shooting at Boston Park
Wichita police are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday night in Boston Park and are asking for the public’s help in solving it.
The shootings happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the park, according to Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, spokeswoman with the Wichita Police Department.
A 31-year-old woman and a 52-year-old woman talked with police shortly after officers arrived on the scene. The 52-year-old told police she was at an apartment in the 1000 block of North Woodlawn when she began hearing gunshots coming from the park, Woodrow said.
She saw four men around a four-door white Chevy Malibu or Impala and two other men around a red Ford SUV in the park, Woodrow said. One of the men around the white car began shooting at the red SUV. Then, witnesses said, all the men suddenly climbed into the vehicles and left the scene.
No one was located at the scene in Boston Park when officers arrived, Woodrow said.
But a short time later, Wichita police were dispatched to a walk-in shooting at Wesley Medical Center, Woodrow said. When officers arrived, a 20-year-old man told them he was at Boston Park on Tuesday evening and was playing basketball when he heard shots.
He was struck by a bullet in the hip area, Woodrow said. His current condition is not known but it does not appear to be life threatening.
Police are asking anyone with information, knowledge or who was in the area to call the police detective division at 316-268-4407, or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
