Three people face charges in death of Wichita man last week

Three people were charged Tuesday with first-degree felony murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 50-year-old Wichita man last week near Central and Hillside.

Shaqwania Mathis, 20; Ashley Evans, 21; and Danny Williams Jr., 19, also face counts of attempted aggravated robbery in Martin Carlos De Cosas’ Sept. 8 death, according to court records and the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Wichita police have said De Cosas was visiting a house in the 2500 block of East Murdock late that evening when a woman showed up, shot him in the chest and fled. It was likely an attempted home robbery, police said. He died while hospitalized.

Williams also was charged with aggravated robbery Tuesday, records show. The trio is due back in court Sept. 27.
