Volunteers sought to clean up around river downtown
This year’s effort to clean up around the Arkansas River downtown will from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The city of Wichita is asking people to register starting at 8:30 a.m. that day at 151 N. Waco (north of the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview). Volunteers are advised to wear their grubbiest clothes and gloves; they will be given trash bags and gloves, and T-shirts will be distributed as long as they last.
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to the volunteers for lunch.
Last year, 855 people took part in the Arkansas River Trash Roundup, which is the city’s largest Earth Day-related event. Over the past 14 cleanups, more than 23 tons of trash have been picked up from around the river.
