A 55-year-old inmate at the Sedgwick County Jail died early Tuesday as a result of terminal illnesses, according to a news release from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the release, on-site staff members and Emergency Medical Services attempted to aid the man, but he was pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m.
His identity is being withheld at his family’s request.
He was booked into jail on Jan. 12, 2015, on a felony charge, according to the release.
Over the past nine months, he was hospitalized 10 times for a total of 73 days and was taken to the emergency room four other times for treatment, according to the release.
This is the second reported inmate death at the Sedgwick County Jail in 2016.
