The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man killed late Friday afternoon when his bicycle was struck by a pickup.

John A. Ashton, 62, died after being struck shortly before 6 p.m. at 135th West and MacArthur Road, authorities said.

Ashton was riding north on 135th Street and failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection. A pickup traveling west on MacArthur struck Ashton after attempting to avoid him, authorities said.

He was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he was pronounced dead.

The pickup veered into a ditch on the north side of the street and struck a tree. The 39-year-old woman driving the pickup was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment.
